Music Teacher

Position Summary:

MGIS is an International School, with IB certification, where English is the language of instruction. The Music Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging music lessons that foster students' musical abilities, appreciation, and creativity according to the IB philosophy. This role involves developing a comprehensive music curriculum, teaching various aspects of music such as theory, vocal performance, and instrumental skills, and organizing musical events and performances. The Music Teacher collaborates with colleagues and parents to inspire a love for music and enrich the school’s educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development and Lesson Planning

  • Design and implement an age-appropriate music curriculum aligned with school standards and objectives.
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans that cover music theory, history, and performance skills.
  • Introduce students to diverse musical genres, traditions, and cultures to broaden their understanding of music.

2. Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Teach students to read music, play instruments, and improve their vocal abilities.
  • Facilitate group and individual lessons to address students' varying skill levels and interests.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity.

3. Encouraging Creativity and Musical Growth

  • Inspire students to develop their musical talents and pursue personal artistic expression.
  • Provide constructive feedback on students' performances, focusing on technical improvement and musical interpretation.
  • Encourage students to collaborate and perform in ensembles or bands.

4. Organizing Performances and Events

  • Plan and direct school concerts, recitals, and other musical events to showcase student talents.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and school staff for interdisciplinary projects involving music.
  • Support extracurricular activities, such as choir or music clubs, to enhance student engagement.

5. Classroom and Equipment Management

  • Maintain the music classroom, instruments, and other equipment in good condition.
  • Manage inventory of musical instruments and supplies, ensuring timely repairs or replacements.
  • Teach students proper care and handling of musical instruments.

6. Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Stay informed about the latest trends and practices in music education through workshops and training.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration to integrate music into school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding students' progress and participation in musical activities.
