Position Summary:

MGIS is an International School with IB certification, where English is the language of instruction. The Homeroom Teacher serves as the primary point of contact for a specific class, fostering a supportive and organized classroom environment in accordance with the IB philosophy. In addition to teaching their designated subjects (English, Social Studies, Science and Math), the Homeroom Teacher is responsible for overseeing the daily routines of their assigned class, including morning duties, attendance, break supervision, and dismissal. This role also involves taking special care of students’ well-being, creating a positive atmosphere, and building strong relationships with students and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Morning and Attendance Duties

  • Conduct morning in-class duties, ensuring students are prepared for the day.
  • Take and record daily attendance accurately, following up on absences as necessary.

2. Break and Dismissal Supervision

  • Supervise students during in-class breaks to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
  • Oversee dismissal duties, ensuring that all students exit the school safely and are accounted for.

3. Student Well-being and Support

  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported and valued.
  • Monitor and address the social, emotional, and academic needs of homeroom students.
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for students, promoting their personal and academic growth.

4. Communication with Parents and Staff

  • Act as the main point of contact for parents regarding their child’s well-being and overall progress.
  • Regularly communicate with parents about attendance, behavior, and academic concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school staff to address student needs and maintain consistency.

5. Classroom Organization and Management

  • Establish clear routines and expectations for homeroom students.
  • Ensure that the classroom remains organized and conducive to learning.
  • Maintain and update records regarding student attendance, progress, and behavior.

6. Promoting School Values and Initiatives

  • Reinforce school policies, values, and behavior expectations.
  • Encourage students to participate actively in school events and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a cohesive school culture.
