Art Teacher

Position Summary:

MGIS is an International School, with IB certification, where English is the language of instruction. The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging art lessons that foster creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skills in students, in accordance with the IB philosophy. This role involves developing a comprehensive art curriculum, guiding students in exploring various artistic techniques and mediums, and promoting an appreciation for art history and culture. The Art Teacher collaborates with school staff to enhance the overall educational experience through the integration of visual arts.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development and Lesson Planning

  • Develop and implement an age-appropriate art curriculum aligned with school standards and educational goals.
  • Create lesson plans that introduce students to various art techniques, materials, and styles.
  • Integrate art history and cultural studies into lessons to enrich students’ understanding of artistic expression.

2. Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Teach students foundational and advanced art skills, such as drawing, painting, sculpting, and digital design.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-expression and creativity.
  • Maintain order and discipline in the classroom to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

3. Encouraging Creativity and Expression

  • Encourage students to develop their unique artistic style and voice.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student artwork, focusing on both technical skills and creative growth.
  • Inspire students to appreciate art as a means of self-expression and communication.

4. Promoting Art in the School Community

  • Organize and display student artwork in school exhibitions, events, and community showcases.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art into cross-disciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
  • Support extracurricular activities, such as art clubs or competitions, to enhance student engagement.

5. Classroom and Material Management

  • Ensure the art classroom is organized, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Manage art supplies and materials, maintaining an inventory and ordering replacements as needed.
  • Teach students to use tools and materials safely and responsibly.

6. Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Stay updated on current trends and practices in art education through workshops and training.
  • Collaborate with school staff and administration to align the art program with educational objectives.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and communicate student progress effectively.
