English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher

Position Summary:

MGIS is an International School with IB certification, where English is the language of instruction. The English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and practical instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, in accordance with the IB philosophy. This role requires fostering a love for language and literature while helping students develop strong literacy skills and a desire to become lifelong learners. The ideal candidate demonstrates a passion for the English language, employs a variety of instructional strategies, and fosters an environment that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Planning and Delivery
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with ELA curriculum standards and learning objectives.
  • Participate in collaborative transdisciplinary planning sessions
  • Teach using a range of texts such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and informational content.
  • Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to accommodate varied student learning needs.
  • Integrate educational technology and multimedia tools to enhance language instruction.
     
  1. Classroom Management
  • Establish a classroom environment that is respectful, inclusive, and conducive to learning.
  • Set and communicate clear expectations for student behavior and academic engagement.
  • Enforce classroom routines and procedures in alignment with school policies.
     
  1. Assessment and Evaluation
  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and provide targeted support.
  • Offer timely, constructive feedback to students and maintain communication with parents/guardians.
     
  1. Student Support and Engagement
  • Encourage student participation, creativity, and curiosity in all aspects of English language learning.
  • Provide additional support for students through differentiated instruction, tutoring, or enrichment opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and motivating environment that builds confidence in language skills.
     
  1. Professional Collaboration and Development
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align instructional practices and integrate interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development initiatives.


  1. Contribution to School Community
  • Participate actively in school events, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities (Clubs).
  • Support and contribute to literacy initiatives such as reading challenges, writing competitions, or book clubs.
  • Uphold and model the school's mission, vision, and values in all professional conduct.
