Purpose:
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies to ensure a safe and compliant working environment. The role ensures adherence to company safety standards and local regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
Responsibilities:
1. Safety Compliance & Implementation
• Ensure compliance with local occupational health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
• Monitor adherence to safety procedures and safe work practices.
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Control
• Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
• Follow up on implementation of corrective actions.
3. Incident Management
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
• Prepare detailed incident reports with root cause analysis.
• Recommend and monitor corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
4. Safety Training & Awareness
• Conduct safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
• Deliver toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions.
• Promote continuous improvement in safety culture.
5. Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Prepare monthly HSE reports and performance statistics.
• Ensure permits to work (PTW) are properly issued and controlled.
6. Emergency Preparedness
• Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
• Ensure availability and proper maintenance of fire and safety equipment.
• Coordinate with emergency services when required.
Qualification:
• NEBOSH IGC or equivalent safety certification preferred.
• Knowledge of local safety regulations and standards.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and risk assessment techniques.
• Excellent observation and inspection skills.
• Strong reporting and documentation abilities.
• Good communication and training skills.
• Ability to influence and promote a safety culture.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills.
