Basic Function:

  • The driver is responsible for maintaining the ambulance in optimal condition, adhering to traffic and emergency driving laws, and ensuring exceptional safety, professionalism, and customer service during EMS operations The Ambulance Driver ensures the safe, timely, and professional transport of patients and EMS staff, while supporting frontline clinical teams with vehicle readiness, equipment checks, infection control, and operational tasks.


Principal Duties:

Emergency & Non-Emergency Transport Operations

  • Operate the ambulance safely and responsibly in emergency and non-emergency situations, following road safety laws and emergency response protocols.
  • Ensure safe transport of patients, EMS crew, and equipment to hospitals and assigned locations.
  • Utilize sirens and emergency lights only in accordance with approved EMS protocols and regulations.
  • Assist EMS crew in patient movement and safe loading/unloading of stretchers and equipment.
  • Perform daily ambulance checks, ensuring fuel, fluids, tire pressure, cleanliness, and safe mechanical condition
  • Maintain interior and exterior ambulance cleanliness and hygiene at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Report mechanical issues immediately to the line manager.
  • Maintain the vehicle logbook, mileage records, and operational reports.
  • Assist medical staff with equipment preparation, stretcher handling, and safe scene access as needed.
  • \Support infection control measures including vehicle disinfection, waste disposal, and PPE setup.
  • \Maintain clean and organized ambulance environment and restocking of supplies when instructed.

 

Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance:                    

  • Regularly check and maintain the ambulance's operational condition.
  • Ensure all medical and emergency equipment inside the ambulance is functional.
  • Report any mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions immediately.


Coordination & Communication:           

  • Communicate with emergency medical teams, hospital staff, and dispatchers for smooth patient transport.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with patients and their families.
  • Keep trip logs updated with patient details and transport records.


QHSE & Compliance

  • Follow company Code of Conduct, SOPs, safety standards, and uniform policies always.
  • Ensure safe driving practices and immediate reporting of safety issues, incidents, near misses, and hazards.
  • Remain physically and mentally fit for duty and free from impairing substances while on shift.
  • Uphold professional communication and respectful behavior with patients, EMS staff, and the public.
  • Assist in event standby operations and special assignments.
  • Support logistics tasks such as equipment transfers, station organization, and administrative handovers.
  • Conduct duties assigned by the Operations Supervisor to support safe and smooth EMS operations.
