Role Summary 
We are seeking an experienced Head of Software Engineering to drive the end-to-end execution of our product and platform, from research and development through production deployment and operational excellence. This role will own architecture, engineering standards, delivery execution, and team growth while ensuring scalability, stability, and performance across back-end services, data-intensive processing pipelines, and user-facing applications. 
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, has experience shipping complex production systems, and thrives in fast-paced, high-impact environments - particularly those involving AI, geospatial data, and large-scale processing workloads. 

Key Responsibilities 
Lead the engineering organization across product delivery and R&D-to-production execution 
Design and drive scalable system architecture across back-end services, data pipelines, and front-end applications 
Own roadmap execution, sprint planning, milestone tracking, and release readiness 
Establish and enforce engineering standards covering code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, observability, and performance optimization 
Ensure production stability and throughput for large-scale, long-running processing workloads 
Partner closely with AI and R&D teams to translate research outputs into reproducible, deployable, and monitorable production systems 
Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management 
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, and Customer teams to ensure successful implementation and delivery 
Requirements
8–12+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of teams and engineering managers 
Strong hands-on experience in back-end development using PHP and Python, and front-end systems using React in production environments 
Proven expertise in designing scalable architecture across distributed systems, asynchronous processing, queues, caching layers, and database systems 
Strong architectural decision-making capabilities focused on reliability, performance, scalability, and observability 
Experience translating R&D or AI-driven initiatives into stable, maintainable production features 
Clear, decisive communicator with strong cross-functional leadership skills 
Core Technical Expertise & Scope
Strong hands-on expertise in PHP, Python, and React, with the ability to architect and deliver production-grade systems across back-end services and user-facing applications 
Proven ability to design and plan scalable architectures 
Demonstrated experience shipping complex production systems and owning outcomes end-to-end 
Strong engineering leadership experience within startup or fast-paced environments, balancing technical depth with execution velocity 
Experience building and optimizing geospatial and photogrammetry processing pipelines, including large datasets, long-running workloads, and throughput tuning 
Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows for imagery analysis, mapping outputs, and productionizing research-driven features 
Expertise in developing back-end services and APIs, including authentication, orchestration, job scheduling, and system integrations 
Experience building and maintaining React-based web applications for operational workflows and customer-facing delivery platforms 
Hands-on experience with cloud and/or on-prem deployments, including monitoring, logging, and performance optimization strategies 
Experience handling large geospatial assets such as imagery, orthomosaics, DSM/DTM, and point clouds, including tiled and streamed formats
