Department/Brand Profile

A Financial Manager plays a pivotal role in the financial health of an organization. They are responsible for overseeing the financial activities and management of the organization, ensuring that the financial systems are robust and compliant, and support current activities and future growth. In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Manager creates financial reports, directs investments, and creates plans and strategies for the long-term financial benefit of the organization. Additionally, the financial manager supports the executive management team by offering insights and financial advice that will allow them to make the best business decisions for the company. This entails crafting budgets, producing prompt and precise monthly financial reports, examining budget discrepancies, and proposing actionable enhancements.


Job Summary

Financial Analysis & Strategic Planning:

  • Prepare annual budgets and advise line managers and CEO about financial and business performance results.
  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  • Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports; Monthly profit and loss forecast by division (vs. budget).
  • Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., opening new operations, asset acquisition, new service launches).
  • Provide financial analysis statements including monthly balance sheets, income statements, cash flows statements, and actual to budget and last year variance analysis.
  • Work in cooperation with managers for planning initiatives through financial analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
  • Evaluate and oversee risk management, and mitigate key elements of the group's risk profile.
  • Assist in formulating the group's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and fiscal efficiency in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Develop analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., community initiatives, service coverage).
  • Develop, track, and report on KPIs (key performance indicators).

 

Financial Planning and Forecasting:

  • Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports.
  • Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives.
  • Ensure timely reporting of financial information.
  • Develop long-term budgetary plans.

Accounting and Financial Reporting:

  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation, credit card expense report reconciliation, cash applications, collections, and payroll).
  • Prepare balance sheets, income statements, changes in fund balance statements, and/or statements of cash flow from working trial balances.
  • Establish and maintain accounting systems, internal reporting, controls, and records.
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems.
  • Ensure an accurate preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements.

 

Risk Management:

  • Ensure that company financial statements and accounting records are correct, accurate, and compliant.
  • Monitor & Audit payroll, Social Security, prepare paychecks or direct deposits, Final Settlements, and employee benefits.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company and legal issues affecting the industry.
  • Ensure that record-keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Evaluate and oversee risk management.
  • Monitor legal issues involving the company.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Payroll and Employee Benefits:

  • Monitor and audit payroll.
  • Prepare paychecks or direct deposits.
  • Handle employee benefits activities.
  • Perform payroll system updates.

Cash and Asset Management:

  • Ensure the monthly Bank Compliance activities are performed timely and accurately.
  • Oversee cash, investment, asset management, and cash flow planning.
  • Approve weekly payables and ensure availability of funds as needed.

Team Management and Development:

  • Mentor and develop the team of direct reports, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and team building.
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills – Selection Criteria

 

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.

MSc/MBA or relevant.

Experience

  • 8 years plus total experience, with min 3 years at senior level in a reputable institution/ organization.
  • Track record of progressive experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the retail sector.

Cost Accounting.

 

Certification and Licensure

        Accountancy qualification from an institution such as: 

  • Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA).
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
  • Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA).

Professional qualifications such as CFA/CPA or similar will be considered a plus.

Job-Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must practice sound decision-making skills. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging financial systems technology, ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Experience in building teams, resolving conflicts, and solving problems. 
  • Possess and demonstrate an understanding of advanced managerial and leadership principles.
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
