Diesel Generator Technician

Job Purpose:

Responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining diesel generators across telecom sites to ensure continuous and reliable power supply. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, records operational data, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate diesel generators and monitor key parameters including voltage, current, frequency, fuel level, oil pressure, and temperature.
  • Start and stop generators as required based on load demand or maintenance schedules.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities such as oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, and battery inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system faults in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular testing of backup generators to ensure full readiness during power outages.
  • Maintain detailed service and maintenance logs, including spare parts usage and site activity reports.
  • Report major faults or potential failures to the FLM Supervisor and recommend corrective actions.
  • Follow all relevant safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and company regulations.
  • Ensure generator operations comply with environmental standards related to emissions, noise, and fuel handling.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and ensure all tools and materials are safely stored after use.
  • Be available for on-call duties during nights, weekends, or emergencies as required.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Secondary education or Technical Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Systems (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in site coordination, field maintenance, or similar operational role.
  • Solid understanding of diesel generator systems, alternators, fuel systems, and control panels.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and service orientation.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete documentation accurately.
  • Basic computer literacy for logging data and generating maintenance reports.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel to various telecom sites.
